As humans, all of us experience a big selection of emotions. From uplifting emotions like joy and contentment to tougher emotions like anger and sadness, the human emotional experience is available in many shades. Mindfulness of emotions is the practice of bearing witness to whatever emotion we’re experiencing – with curiosity, care, and non-judgment. It will not be all the time a straightforward practice, however it is one which could be strengthened.

On this guide on the way to be mindful of your emotions, we’ll explore:

As noted, mindfulness of emotions is solely the practice of being attentive to our emotional experience with care and curiosity and without judgment. Most of us know that this could be difficult, especially within the face of strong emotions like anger, jealousy, or grief. Nevertheless, it’s a skill that could be developed time beyond regulation and with practice.

After we pay mindful attention to our emotions, we’re doing so without making our emotions good or bad, right or unsuitable. As an illustration, if anger is present, we concentrate without attempting to assess the validity of the emotion. Fairly, we notice the easy fact of what’s present together with any direct sensations we’re experiencing (i.e. tightness within the shoulders or warmth within the face). If we notice a voice that claims, “I shouldn’t be feeling this fashion” or “I’m right to feel this fashion,” these too could be held in the sunshine of awareness. We don’t need to evaluate our judgments.

Moreover, mindfulness of emotions will not be a practice used to ‘get rid’ of our emotions or to bypass them. Our emotions might shift or transmute in consequence of practice, however the intention will not be to vary through force or will. Equally, it will not be about holding onto our emotions. This practice is solely one in every of gentle statement that enables our present moment experience to be what it’s.
