Nondual guided meditation with Michael Taft

Emptiness doesn’t mean something doesn’t exist. Even the Buddha refused to say that emptiness means non-existence. Reasonably, emptiness is the popularity that an apparent phenomenon is present as an experience, but that have is solely arising in awareness. Something happening in awareness is different than nothing-at-all; it’s an experience. But the character of that have is as nothing greater than an appearance or arising in awareness.

After we look fastidiously at our experience, we notice something completely unexpected and shocking. The whole lot that we’ve been calling real is nothing aside from an appearance within the mind. The world, as we experience it, is nothing aside from an appearance within the mind. Even our self, as we experience it, is nothing aside from an appearance within the mind. That’s emptiness. (Now return and browse that Note again. Understand?)

After we see directly that every part is nothing aside from a mental construction (i.e. empty), we’ve got learned something incredibly essential. When seen as empty, things lose their “bite.” We not feel so reactive and upset by what’s happening, because we see it’s nature clearly. The deeper we see the emptiness, the more freedom we feel, the less reactive we feel. See slightly emptiness, and you’ll feel slightly relief from reactivity. See more emptiness, and you’ll feel more relief. It’s that simple.

Things experienced as empty turn into quite beautiful. The flow of their arising and passing is experienced as lovely, like a river or wind within the tall grass. Even the sense of self becomes beautiful because it is seen as empty. That is nonduality.
